Start your exploration from Trikala. As you head out onto the main road from Xylokastro to Trikala, you'll come across a sign that points you in the direction of the charming village, called “Manna”. This route is a hidden gem that you absolutely should explore.

“Manna” isn't just any village; it's a place of abundance. The village provides a livelihood for many local farmers who cultivate their fertile land. It's famous for its delicious, crisp apples, a local specialty, and the natural springs that have inspired folklore and tales of wonder throughout the years. It's a truly unique village with its three cozy cafes, welcoming inns, and picturesque spots that are well worth a visit.

From Manna, after savoring a cup of coffee, you can make your way to Panariti. Back in the 1930s, this village had its own raisin factory. Today, the old factory building still stands, albeit showing the signs of time. Panariti's prosperity was once so remarkable that it gave rise to a saying: “Marry someone as prosperous as a groom from Panariti”, highlighting the village's wealth. Until recently, even a Middle High School operated here, and intriguing traces (rocks) of ancient Cyclopean walls have been discovered in the farmer’s fields.

After immersing yourself in the beauty of Manna, we suggest you continue your journey to Stylia. This village holds a significant place in religious history. Here, you'll find a lovely church that invites you to light a candle, admire the finely crafted wooden altar screen, and gaze upward. On the ceiling, you'll discover a black cross, a symbol of resilience. It was formed during the destroying fires of 2000 that covered the entire church. Remarkably, the fire extinguished on its own, leaving behind this enduring cross on the church's ceiling (the church is dedicated to Saint Athanasios).

We suggest you explore the Ziria Ski Center, located just a breath away from Trikala. Follow the road signs to reach it and make sure you drive cautiously. Whether you're a novice or an experienced skier, a snowmobile enthusiast, or if you are a fan of other winter sports that require snow, mountains, and good company, then the Ziria Ski Center is what you’ve been looking for. It's an excellent place to catch your breath after sports activities, enjoy a coffee, or savor a meze while enjoying a snowy landscape (if you suddenly find yourself surrounded by the fog and the clouds, don’t you feel surprised. It is a common thing here and a unique experience for those who have never found themselves in such a situation).

How about a trip to Lake Dasiou? This is a pristine lake, one of the few natural ones found at such altitudes. It's home to unique fauna and stands as a true natural gem in our region. Every year, it beckons visitors of all ages who relish the scenery and nature’s generosity. (Note that during summertime, the lake might run dry).

Afterward, you can follow your heart's desires. You can either turn back or head towards Karya and try the local, grilled goodies.

Are you in Xylokastro? How about embarking on a mountain-inspired journey? Follow the road leading towards Trikala. You'll soon find yourself in the charming village of Mertikeika, where once our present-day "Pefkias" forest stretched its verdant boughs all the way to the "Kati tou Pefkou" area. It's a semi-mountainous village, teeming with life and natural beauty.

As you journey through Mertikeika, you'll arrive at Riza, renowned for its picturesque churches, delectable local cuisine, and a vibrant cultural scene (spoiler alert – don't miss a visit to the village's café, seamlessly blending tradition with contemporary elements; it's an experience worthy of your attention). Take your time to wander through the village, inhale the fragrant notes of citrus orchards, and then return to your vehicle.

Continue your route until you reach the upper Trikala district (Ano Trikala). This historical gem boasts the ancient, immaculately preserved Monastery of Agios Vlasios, exuding vitality even to this day, the historic "Theoxenia" hotel, stone-built settlements, extraordinary culinary delights, and what someone could call a captivating village. Trikala stands as one of the most sought-after destinations in our region.

Following the road after Trikala and following the signposts to Karya, you'll arrive in approximately 10 minutes at yet another historic and idyllic village. Despite its close proximity to Trikala, the village retains its authentic character. Here, you'll discover beautifully crafted stone residences and two tavernas serving local produce and tantalizing grilled dishes. (Remember to visit Panagia, the central church built in 1859, and capture photographs of the charming Chapel of Death, situated right beside it and dating back to the 13th century).

Descend toward Zaholi / Evrostina, an emerald paradise. Key stops include the church of Saint Georgios (Agios Georgios in the Greek language), surrounded by seven majestic cypress trees, the Holy Mary of the Shelters (Panagia ton Katafygion, as we call it in Greek), and, of course, the enchanting Stream of the Mills. This locale transcends mere beauty, with Zaholi revealing a different facet of its rich history (a true story) at every turn, waiting for you to explore and weave it into your own narrative... today!

Once you've savored your coffee and indulged in delectable village cuisine at any of the aforementioned locales, you'll reach Rozena. This sprawling village comprises four distinct neighborhoods and numerous winding lanes, each concealing picturesque corners, and charming surprises. After leisurely exploring the village and its exquisite churches, it's time to head towards Derveni.

In Derveni, you can luxuriate in a refreshing swim, meander through its narrow alleyways, ascend its stone staircases, or embark on a leisurely stroll to the quaint old railway station.

Welcome from the green and historic Evrostina (or Zaholi, as we also call it)! Your journey begins with an initial stop at the enchanting “Mills' Creek” or “Rema ton Mylon”, as per its Greek naming. Here is where you can savor traditional sweets that will delight your palate.

Once you've had your fill of these enthralling scenes, head into Sarantapicho. Leave your car by the main church, which is the first one you will see when you arrive in the village. Your journey into nature has now begun! Lose yourself on meandering trails, be in awe of soaring trees and stately firs, investigate antique lodges and deserted airstrips, and find secret coves that are all filled with bubbling streams.

The historic village of Karya is the next stop on your tour. This is the location of two churches, one a stately architectural marvel and the other a modest relic of tradition. Wander around the beautiful bell tower, which is situated outside the charming “Chapel of Death”, and sample some of the region's specialties, which are well-known for their delicious roasts. Finish your tour with a cup of coffee at one of the village's great inns, then take a leisurely stroll through the breathtaking scenery.

Return to your vehicle and make your way to Upper Trikala (Ano Trikala), where you can walk through history itself. Trikala boasts a treasure trove of attractions waiting for you to discover!

A journey that starts with the name of a flower (Lygia comes from the word "lygaria," which means willow tree) can be truly amazing, wouldn't you agree? Let's go for a walk, beginning in the lovely village of Lygia.

Head toward Chelidori. Just a few road curves after Lygia, you'll arrive in Mentourgianika, a charming village with its traditional neighborhoods. Here, it feels like time has paused as you wander through narrow streets with wooden shutters and small, colorful houses that remind you of the Cyclades. Take a moment to visit the beautiful and welcoming Monastery of Saint Gerasimos, a glebe of the historic Prophet Elias Monastery. A cup of coffee, a taste of a sweet treat, and some peaceful contemplations are all you need.

Continue your journey to Pyrgos (meaning “tower” in the Greek language), one of our larger villages, where you must make a stop. Make sure to visit the local café and marvel at the sight of the Kordis' Tower. Should luck favor you, you may be presented with the most succulent, deep-red cherries that could satisfy any sugar craving!

For an exploration of a pristine place surrounded by lush greenery and water, head to Ano Kallithea. Here, you should visit the central church, Agia Marina, and then take a leisurely walk through the village's streets. You'll be captivated by traces of a bygone era with traditional stone houses and the fresh air, creating a fairy-tale-like atmosphere. Don't forget to discover the old chapels (some of them date back to the 17^th century) and taste the pure water from the water fountains you’ll find around.

Just a short drive away, you'll reach Gelini, a vast village with impressive buildings, a Buddhist Stupa, ancient monasteries like Agios Konstantinos (it was built in 1100 bC), and many more. An absolute must-see here is the “Kondis’ Stream”, located in the Lagkadaika settlement. If you happen to lose your way, feel free to ask the locals!

Leaving Gelini behind, make your way to Sofiana and make a stop at KafeNeon. This newcomer to the village, run by two individuals originally from Crete, offers delights with a Cretan touch. And don't forget to sample the delightful local wine!

Now, head towards Rethi and explore this charming village, famous for its abundant grapes and the warm hospitality of its friendly, approachable people.
